About Me

I am a linguistic anthropologist — which means I am interested in all things that interconnect language, society, and culture — and Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. My research focuses primarily on the revitalization of Indigenous languages in the Brazilian Amazon and in Canada, with particular emphasis on urban contexts, multilingualism, and language policy. I am also interested in the dynamics of imagining the linguistic future, and how that manifests in fictional stories as well as in real-world projects.

Prospective Graduate Students

I am available to supervise Master’s or PhD Students in the interdisciplinary Cultural Studies program or in Global Development Studies. Students with research interests relating to linguistic anthropology, Indigenous languages, and other related topics are invited to contact me to discuss prospective supervision.
